@STAKE Tourism Edition is an interactive stakeholder simulation set on the fictional island of Nusa Luma, where tourism development presents opportunities and challenges for the local community. Players explore an interactive island map, examine evidence and consider perspectives from local residents, tourism businesses, environmental interests, government and other stakeholders involved in the island's future. Across six connected decisions, players weigh competing priorities involving tourism development, environmental protection, community wellbeing, infrastructure and the long-term sustainability of the island. Their choices influence stakeholder impacts, trigger new Stakeholder Pulse reactions and create consequences that may emerge later in the simulation. With Senior Secondary and Higher Education learning pathways, @STAKE Tourism Edition encourages learners to analyse evidence, recognise trade-offs and develop a defensible judgement about responsible and sustainable tourism development.
Students will: • identify and compare the priorities, concerns and values of different stakeholders involved in tourism development • analyse evidence from maps, destination information and stakeholder perspectives before making decisions • evaluate environmental, social, economic and community trade-offs associated with tourism development • make and justify decisions in complex situations where there is no single correct solution • examine how decisions can create different benefits and pressures for different stakeholders • recognise that consequences may emerge over time and influence later decisions • reflect on how their own assumptions and priorities influence decision-making • use the final analysis and report to construct and defend a judgement about the sustainability of their chosen tourism pathway
